A more sophisticated buggy...

I'll make this quick and let the pics do the talking. BTW, I made this for a game that, and, unless someone can provide me with a tutorial on car physics in Unity, I'm going to make the game in Blender.

Pic #1 is my background image!

It does look a lot like the current Mars buggy. If you're planning on making a separate game/proj, you may want to consider modeling a different style of a buggy or car to use. Overall, it look nice though.

[edit] Just looked at the pics again, it seems you have some odd mesh crinkling towards the base of the cockpit - might want to fix that.

Yeah, I'll probably change the body up a bit, but I'll leave the wheels; they're harder to make than the body (as you can probably imagine). And the cockpit crinkle I'm not worried about; it is for a game, and I'm looking to decrease the level of detail anyway (is that what LOD means? It's in the Whirld system, and I know it is the re-spawn point, but Level Of Detail is all I can come up with as an acronym). Do you know of any way to decrease the level of detail; I made it such high quality that I'm afraid it won't work well for my game (unless I make it for iOS; I probably won't though). Thanks for the constructive criticism, Achilles!

It's pretty good. But what is that thing on the back of the car and on the bottom? It might be a lisence plate but it looks much closer to a smaller wheel, almost like the car does wheelies and it's like a wheel to keep the car from flipping in a drag race lol. But it's good. I like the headlights. And is that your logo on the back too?

The back "wheel" is actually the reflection on the ground from the frontt right wheel.

No, that's not my Logo; this is my logo:

It's for my own "company", but until I get something to sell, this is useless!

Glad you like the headlights; my dad liked them too!

Cool! It does look like the body should be changed a bit, as right now it looks a little bit too much like a scaled and changed around cue that has just been subdivided a lot XD. I like the wheels!

Nice renders! I like shape of the buggy, very buggy-ish. The headlights don't seem to fit with the "modern" curved body of the buggy. Maybe just have headlights but not make them defined. Would be nice if we could see a Unity demo.

Maybe a demo (I am making it a game after all). If I can figure out how to make a strictly physics based car in Unity, I may post a tutorial on it. (Cause if you're like me, you have NO idea how to use wheel colliders!)

I don't like it.

  1. Too round
  2. Not enough texture.
  3. Looks like its been worked on for 5 min.
  4. Its to bold.

Maybe you could be a bit nicer. maybe your points are good, but for some it seems like you are criticizing for the sake of criticizing. He obviously spent more than 5 minutes on this.

Be NICE.

Thank you.

I did NOT work on this five minutes; this took me closer to 3 - 3 1/2 hours to make - I'd like to see someone make something like this in 5 minutes! It isn't supposed to have any texture; I've had a LOT of trouble with Unity importing the model right, usually resulting in no textures, just colors. And it's supposed to be sleek; it is NOT too round; it is supposed to be elegant and smooth. And what do you mean it's too bold? If you're going to criticize people, please don't act like a noob when you do; it can really hurt other peoples feelings.

Okay, okay. I'm sorry. When I said "to bold" I meant the color. Also, 3 and a half hours doesn't seem like a long time. I suppose 10 hours ( broken down in days) would be more accurate. Next, when I said "too round" I meant it looks like a pill with 4 wheels connected to it. Last, when you get criticism, you should take it and apply it to your own work to make it better. I'm done talking about this, everyone.

using constructive criticism, in the first picture the side's of the buggy appear to look a bit big compared to how the the rest of the body is in size

that link will take you to a unity car tutorial

I like it and all, but it looks like a race car. To me (and only me) I want a realistic buggy.

I've downloaded that tutorial (twice), but it doesn't provide enough info on how to use wheel colliders. Thanks anyway.

Not bad... Are there any new features? Other than it looking a bit taller? Does it have  more gripping power, more accurate laser firing from the sides, what?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you spent a lot of time on the wheels (which look good) and headlights, and a little less time on the body and canopy. Don't get me wrong, it's a quality model, and you spent time on it, but it seems very smoothed out.

Now I'm not saying smoothed is a bad thing, but maybe a little more interest in the main chassis. A little lower to the ground provides more appeal, and a wider wheelbase (Search "Lightrunner" on Google Images).

It's a hot model, and I like the rendering. :)

I like it, but it seems a little similar to the current buggy.  Maybe make it have a wider body, and lower canopy?  Also, the tires seem like they'll take up a LOT of processing power with all the detail on the tire treads (which will probably be spinning too quickly for the user to notice in game.)   Maybe remove some of the polys and add more detail to the chassis?

Once again I am putting in a very late comment! :)
You obviously spent a long time on the tyres and the general tyre area but as others have commented, the chassis is a little bland. Personally I like this though! ;). The matte finish adds a nice touch too! Good work! :D
