Okay, people;

I don't post much these days, so bear with me.

I'm not a very good designer (look here for proof), but I got an idea recently... It's been nagging me for a while, and I've decided to try and make it.

As you probably read in the title, it's a castle. This castle will be huge, at least twice the size of the volcano in Freestyle, maybe even the entire world.

It would have (Indiana Jones-style) traps, such as giant rocks that a tank could push around that would fall from the ceiling if the buggy went over a switch in the floor.

Maybe secret tower, rooms, etc. as well, and a drawbridge/door that could be lowered by a buggy parked on a switch inside. (That last idea has been designed by the amazing supermarinespitfire already, I just have to make it move)

If anyone has any ideas for traps, please comment or PM me them, I need the help!

If you're good at designing things like this, and you want to help, PLEASE PM ME!!!!

I need help, people, and I'm not good enough to do this on my own.

And if anyone could give me some pointers for animating things (yes, Pointybagels, I saw this, but I didn't really understand it....

Oh! Almost forgot the most important part!

I've already made a patchwork sketchup design rom things on the 3D Warehouse... its not good, but I've (already) encountered a problem... Let me take an example; in Kirby's Labyrinth, there are intricately designed passageways that are impossible to make in Sketchup.

And I'm not exactly good with Blender, so...
could someone explain to me how to do this, kind of a Blender-guide-to-idiots?

Please comment and help, and PM me too,

~Red

EDIT:

Here ya go, fai!

I read through this quickly, and this is what I have to say:

I like your idea, and I wouldn't mind helping if you need random parts or anything. I made a small castle type house earlier this year, so if you want to see it just for design help that would be fine.

You don't need animations for traps. If you balance it correctly, and implement a few scripts, you can make it all work without animation. (ex. balancing a platform so that if weight is added, it shifts slightly to the side letting a wall inside another wall fall down into a basement, letting gravity altered daggers fly out of the wall).

A drawbridge would be fun, can I design it?

Kirby's labyrinth is actually really easy to make in sketchup. It takes less time too.

All the best,
Protofai

Red, that link you are talking about is a list of animation tutorials, did you click on each individual tutorial within it to see how to do it in more detail, because it does a very good job of explaining it.

Nice idea, Red.

I think that the hill idea is a good one. Try and make it realistic, do some resaerch on castles before you do anything major.

A current side project of mine involves a possibility of a castle.

I always think castles look cool when on cliffs, it is really amazing what you can do in that case.

On a cliff, you can make it do that half the castle is the CLIFF, or maybe you can make it so that the castle is like a clifhanger of Seb's....

Or it can be made of glass....

Drawbridge Elevator:

This is my favorite.

So There is a large drawbridge in the down position, with the chains connected to the tp of a gate. A pulley system in made so when a buggy gets into an elevtor platform, the pulleys lift the drawbridge on hinges, closing the gate. the platform is made of metal so when it comes in contact with a scripted "magnet", it stays down. The drawbridge is light, so all that has to happen for it to open is it has to be shot from within to create enough tension on the magnet to separate it from the platform.

The rolling stone(s):

So there is a corridor With a wall at the end, so it appears to be a dead end. But if the player drives onto the floor, the corridor tips downward, creating an upward slope for the player. The "wall" at the end of the corridor is slid up into the roof, pushing a stone forward and through a hole in the roof. the stone rolls toward the player, downhill. When the hall tipped, it revealed a hidden passage behind the player, UNDERNEATH the original path. So the buggy escapes. Of course, the rock is scripted so if it hits the buggy, buggy returns to spawn.

There's only two scripts needed, and I could even bypass those with simple gadgets.

A clamp for the elevator, perhaps.

Perfect!

Thanks  Fai, Tigerstorm, Spitfire, etc.

And Fai... feel free to design a drawbridge... though I liked Spitfire's so much it'll be hard to beat!

ALSO: Loved Fai's ideas for traps etc. and would LOVE help making them, if that's possible...

AND: PB: I did, but... (this is kinda embarrassing)... I'm like half-Amish, thats how good I am with computers.
FAIL, right? lol.

Two things:

Could you post a pic of spitfires drawbridge so I can see what i'm going against?

I can design the traps if needed, they aren't that hard.

Im no designer, I swear you will look like Leonardo Da Vinci compared to my designing skills,
...but I happen to know some people who are pretty good at scripting (they type ``kill(explode)*CrimsonPhantom12*`` and I would burst apart into a million pieces) and Im a good brainstormer of ideas for worlds.
Contact me if you need me,

Sounds cool!  I had an idea for a castle, but it was different than yours, and my computer crashed anyways and killed it. :(  I have an older version of it stored away somewhere, but I haven't got working yet.  You mind if I keep working on it?

Good point, but it'd be kinda boring if there were too castles, wouldn't it?  Unless they were very different...
