Special Olympics is a group which makes it possible for handicapped kids and adults to compete in a wide variety of sports, including horse back riding, skiing, golf, running, etc.  Alex and I have been helping an equestrian group, which meets at Marian Crumb's place, for the last several years.  It's so much fun, and we have a wonderful time every year.

A few weeks ago was the annual end of the year competition.  The Special Olympians get to compete in several different horseback events, including pole bending and relay races.
Afterwards, we have a potluck dinner.

It's tons of fun, and a great way to get exercise!

For me, that is.

I think I've run around Marian's arena at least 1,000 times this year, and it wasn't because I forgot to put my helmet on;)  A lot of the kids aren't very confident, and need someone to walk or run around the arena with them.

I go home absolutely exhausted, but...it's worth it:)

Camilla & I with Shadow, who is one of my favorite horses to ride at Marian's place.  She's an 8-year-old Thoroughbred/Paint cross, with a lot of spunk.  Marian is going to let me come over and jump with her sometime - Shadow has been clearing 3 ft. jumps with no problem lately=)

Madeline is new this year - she got to ride Cody, who is also one of my favorites.

Joey (the horse), Ethan, Alex, Brianna, and Zephyr (the horse).

Marian with Brianna and Zephyr, who is also one of my favorite horses - I know, they're all my favorite horses;)

The whole group - Alex, Ethan, me, Seth (or is it Travis?), Brianna, Lena, Camilla, Travis (or is it Seth?), and Madeline.

I have a lot of respect for all of those kid's parents.  Especially the Nolans.

They have three boys, Seth, Travis, and Ethan, and all three of them are handicapped.

Mr. and Mrs. Nolan are incredible - they're always smiling and joking.

"The Truck" - Marian can get at least four horses in that thing, maybe more in a pinch!=)

Happy Trails!
