ACC_Mad,

Due to the fact that Aubrey did not release the Mars Explorer iPhone app in his Open Source Package, it seems unlikely that development will continue on the app. The only reason that I see as to why development would continue would be if Aubrey continued development by himself, or if he sent it to someone else so that they could continue development.

Personally, though, I believe that it will remain undeveloped. Due to the fact that it was dissatisfactory to many customers, (average rating of 3.5 stars our of 5) it will be hard to regain the face of the Mars Explorer app. Many customers were avid players of the game, and were disappointed when the app failed to live up to their expectations. This resulted in many 1 and 2 star ratings, thus tarnishing the reputation of the app. So even if a developer were to go in and re-design the app, it would still not sell too well, seeing as the ratings show it as being a mediocre app.

I believe the best way to go about improving the app would be for someone to go in and completely design it again... from scratch. New interface, new controls, new networking (yes, I said networking - a Multiplayer feature for iPhones would be cool), etc. If someone were to release an entirely new app (under the name of Mars Explorer 3.0?), it would not have to deal with the mediocre ratings on the app store.

Sincerely,
Apophis

When you say 'from scratch' do you mean from the computer version, or from an ENTIRELY empty project? :/
It would be fairly simple, in theory, to port the new Mars 3 source to iOS : just a new GUI and a different control system... after that, the optimization begins, of course, but just to get it working shouldn't be too hard.

And Unity's networking system is cross-platform anyway, so what's the big deal?
