Mars Explorer, Ender, Bug Reports, connection problems
This Document originally posted in the "Mars Explorer" Group

I can't join many games, I tried following the instructions in the FAQ and enabling DMZ *shudder* but I still can't join anything, even when it's enabled (I disabled it when I discovered I couldn't connect to games).
My ISP is CenturyLink/Qwest. We recently got a new router-modem because the previous one was continually dropping our computers, and this one seems to work fine EXCEPT for the fact that I can't connect.
So, anyone, help? I will give further info if needed.
The ONLY server host whose game I can join is Mercedes.

I'm assuming that you are not on the browser version, no?

I am having minor problems too. Everyone has tendancy to freeze and say "Not Responding". Sometimes it will unfreeze, others it is stuck.
Master Server really needs to be fixed.
Carbon Combat has a much better system.

Most of the network issues have to do with the P2P networking system mars currently employs -- It's very easy to get dropped connections on P2P. It can also be next to impossible to START p2p connections, which is why a lot of times you get blocked firewall port issues. :(
The ADVANTAGE of p2p is no routing through a main server, meaning you can potentially have hundreds of servers running with little lag. However, you have to route through the host's network which is typically slower, plus, on rare occasions, it can even be:
you > server > host > server > you instead of
you > host > you
Which means that while, yes, the SERVER count doesn't add lag, the pLAYER count will significantly increase lag.
I will be switching the mars network system to a grassroots server-client system. I'll add an API layer to allow for easy system swapout if this grassroots solution fails and we need to try something else which is payed.

What kind of networking system does carbon combat have? It seems to be very stable.
CT said he uses photon game networking system or photon cloud.

@ Ender

Look up "DNS flush" for your system and perform it then restart compy. This fixed same problem for me, recently.

Delete Unity plugin, empty trash, restart computer then go to the Play! page and "Launch Game". Sometimes this waitforit...."installs the plugin better" or somehow casts a mojo spell that's better than direct Unity install.
