Moderators are needed to help moderate and help out new players...

This Discussion originally posted in the "Carbon Combat" Group

Hi everyone,

Lately, I have been inundated with requests of my time from my both my clients and my loving family. Towards this end, I have not been able to be online in the game as much as I would like.

I LOVE THIS GAME! I really do, but in order for it to move from where it is right now to a sustainable and lucrative game for CT - we need more human interaction with players (both new and old).

In the absence of any objections from CT, I would like to make a call out for players who feel they have the necessary skill, availability and desire to help new players. If you are one of those players, I would like to hear why you feel you would be a great asset to the game. I have already put a few names forward to CT - however, I am sure there are some of you who have not spoken to me in the past.

The traits that I feel are paramount to a good moderator are not related to age, technical skill or in-game rank. So if you feel you have what it takes - let's here it!

I intend that we as a community will make Carbon Combat one of the most played games online in history...

"So say we all!"

Your friendly neighborhood Guy,
"TheGoodGuy"

I woudl like to second this notion.  As an in-game moderator, I have been absent for a few months (since the rental update truth be told).  As a forum moderator, I am quite active (even if I don't post much)

I have seen several new members rise to the top of the community recently, as several old members faded away.  I would like to see these new members who have contributed greatly to the game and the community to be rewarded, as they should be.

One person who inparticular comes to mind it lagging, I think he would be a good moderator because of what he has contributed to the community and what chat tid-bits I have seen through the screen shots that appear on here.

Sincerely first [Mod],
Nattyfrank

Indeed, I believe lagging would be a fruitful moderator because of his persistent diligence and enthusiasm both on the forum and in-game.

First thing first - thanks for keeping me in such high consideration, i feel honored.
----

I think the community (and CT) shoudl be really thankful to you Moderators, considering the fact that you have been doing at least 3 jobs:

1)ingame helper
2)moderator
3)CT's advisors, development advisor/bug notifier  (red phone on the right of CT's desk)

In my experience the job description of a Moderator is more specific, and in fact I predict  -in time,
if the community will grow according to TGG's anticipation( or beyond), the 3 roles will have to be split.

Of the 3 parts, i'm truly interested in being more involved in the 3rd one; i think it would be a privilege to be part of some kind of "council" that helps CT spot rabbit holes but also decide what are the priorities to work on in order to optimize his scripting time... if that job description has any spot open.
Regarding helping the newbies.. well i am already trying to teach them how to use SPACE, CTRL and SHIFT ,i dont' think i need the [Mod] badge to keep doing so.

But as of now,
if being a Mod means having the chance to help a tad more, then i'd be really happy to become one.

there are plenty players that could become Mods, if you ask me.

Cremyjr and Gexsiun have expressed their desire to become mods ingame to TGG.

Aside from them 2, my nominees are:
ibcf, afdcomposera, goldshadow, U2M, TheCyberMan, ACC_Yoshi

The first 3, because of knowing them enough from ingame, to be able to say that they're balanced people.
U2M,TheCyberMan for the amount they have contributed to the forum.
Yoshi, because even tho i might not always share his viewpoint, is clear to me that he is making motivated observations, and rational thinking is always welcome.

Oh, lagging comes here with an incorrectly capitalized name and in about a month he gets a mod promotion, while I am about to approach the 1-year mark of me in the CC community late summer? I'm insulted.

Joking aside I do think there are some people here on the forum that really would make good moderators. Yoshi might as well be a mod already, monthygreg as well, and I do think lagging would make a good mod from what I've seen so far. Truthfully I wouldn't make a good mod because my CrapCom 8999 is slowing down every day and I can't run CC good enough anymore even if I did prove myself. No seriously I'm not trying to be humble, I'm not going to be a good mod. Seriously, let me upgrade this old clunker first at least.

So mod recommendations from me: Yoshi, monthygreg, lagging (if only to see how well he/she does), and you know what how about every forum regular on here. Well, except maybe U2M, he would make a better Dev if he knew how to program. Oh and zangsta. How about I update this list depend on how I like people? Yeah, that would be good.

Though if we do start getting more mods we need to start setting some ground rules for mods so that we don't have to deal with any "wrongly accused this game sucks" crap. It happens, for instance grinding methods are pretty hard to deal with by mods if it isn't addressed in mod guidelines. Yeah, guidelines actually increasing power, who would have thought that? Note that the rules right now are for the forum mods, so a player can make a case against it. Close all those loopholes, see.

@fca
The reason why i didn't name you originally, isn't that i "dont' like you", but that in another thread you ouvertly stated
I have to prioritize my free time and reading these posts to get a slightly better idea of what ___ suggested is not really high on my list.

This would rule you out in terms of time avilability.

If things changed, then:
you have brought into the forum a lot in the past and i think you'd make a great Mod, the only drawback being, your thought patterns are all-encompassing, intelligent, slighlty sarcastic and super-complex, so you end up having more problems with being concise than i do XD XD  j/k.
I really do think you'd make a good mod, if you're up for it.

In terms of "too many people named", you might be right, but just naming anyone doesn't do much, if he/she doesn't step up and speak for himself/herself.
Also any name is subject to the person's avialability and willingness + cross referencing between others' suggestions and the acutal Mods' opinion.. it's a far shot.

Updating the Mod rules is not only a great idea, but probably strongly needed, it would really help, i agree.
OT: i'm a "he" ;)

Ha, I really got to phrase my sarcastic posts more accurately. lagging, you are pretty observe, and if anything that makes you a better candidate. Just being cautious on my part, no offense if I insulted you or anyone else. It might be from my experience but I was pretty...less smart when I was about a month in to CC. In other words I made some pretty obvious screw-ups I should have seen beforehand.

So yeah, lagging gets a +1 vote from me. And I just realized that i think yoshi is already a mod...whoops.

PS: I used to assume everyone on the internet was gender neutral until a month ago and I screwed up with some jokes. Just being safe again.

Anyway. With the people nominated, I think that they should say why they would like to be a mod if they except the responsibility... It is important to know what they would do, say, or not do.

"It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it."

I don't think people telling why they should be moderators would be accurate. I think CarbonTech should just choose people based on what he sees of them.

That is true Yoshi.  I believe that is how the current mods were chosen.

For me, I know it was a surpize, I didn't ask to become a moderator.  I had just been very helpful to the game since I started playing, and I believe that I was the first mod.

I think that if someone wants to be a mod they can send CarbonTech a PM or something, I am not entierly sure on how it goes.

Perhaps CarbonTech can post something on how to go abotu becoming a moderator.

"It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it."
Yoshi, (sorry, long reply to make my point. Oh God i'm unable to be brief!)

This quotation of yours provokes a "parallax view", in other words you're applying a valid concept but on the wrong dimension, with a parallelism.

CT is the one who rules,not Mods. It's CT's kind decision to listen to the community via the forum;
True, there are plenty other situations in life where "who rules" is painfully clearer.
Aren't Mods more like  local policemen, enforcing the order? Are policemen elected, or do they enrole to become policemen?

OFC we all (community and CT) can question people's(myself included) motivations (wanna be a mod to boost your ego?) and whether they(myself included) are suited for the job.

But ultimately, by playing CC and typing on this forum, we are all implicitly accepting CT's ruling and abide to the boundaries set by him.
This discussion was started by TGG, asking people to step forward(i'm guessing in accord with CT), so people have been following that guideline- why to shake it up?
OFC CT needs to be the one to decide, but people do need to step up, if they want to help(at least i find it has a value even i.r.l.).

I didn't ask to become a moderator

And yet you hoped with every fiber in your being that you would become one. Remember that time CT came to check on the game and I gave him my recommendation for you? And then I think you flipped out with joy.

Still, as the above shows even if you want to become a moderator you shouldn't ask to be one and let your deeds do the talking. Natty became a mod because he really helped the community and help ease a lot of the problems regular players had. He pursuaded me to join the forums, which really was what led to me becoming a long-time Carbonian (even if I don't really play anymore). He even walked me through tech support that one time with my mouse. Of course I was going to give him my recommendation!

The moral of the story: mods don't nominate themselves, the community can give recommendations to players to become a moderator but the ultimate decision lies with CT. 5+ nominations can go a long way here, but if CT notices something we didn't pick up then the nominee never gets to be a mod. So if you want to be a mod then go out there and make it happen yourself, and let CT judge that instead of just a few recommendations.

This is why I will never be a mod. I am lazy and never could go out and look for problems to solve but rather just solve any problems that happen to come onto my lap. And if you consider yourself similar than a mod position might not be for you. Or it might, who knows. Every problem solved is good even if you don't go out looking for them, right?

Truth be told, I was doing more customer service and low level tech support then playing the game at most times...  I remember sitting on the kongregate chat rooms asking if people needed help and helping them if they did.  i went into games and helped to make sure everyone was playing fairly and that they had no problems.  I did my absolute best to help out everyone.  If CarbonTech was on kongregate testing something out and was inundated with questions, I answered the ones thhat I could.  I woudl help CarbonTech test out the game.

I was quite famous for a while because of how much I played and how helpful I was.  Those who know are now gone, mostly.  I am also one of the only "old timers" that still plays.  Back when the top five was Director, Suffercor, Thejellyfish, CarbonTech and myself.  (forget the order).  Only myself and CarbonTech play now.

And as FCA said, I was happy to have his reconmendation.  I woudl have helped him out regardless though.  I tried my best to be a fair player back then, and I try my best ot be a fair moderator now.

This is the end of my speach for now,
Nattyfrank

I would be very happy if I were made a moderator here, and I am very humbled that many people believe I would make a good mod, but I'm not sure I really fill the "requirements" for this job...

I realise that I've contributed a lot to this community with my 23 Unity worlds, and my helicopter vehicle and everything, I'm not that active on the forum that much anymore: Though I view most of the posts that are made here, it is rare for me to leave comments on them these days.
Also, if I were made a mod, I would not be able to moderate in-game unless the standalones were updated, due to the fact I cannot play online because of my outdated and un-updatable Unity web player; obviously having to update the standalones regularly just for me would be a great bother to CT, and just not necessary...

However, if I were, by some stroke of chance, made a mod, I'm sure I would be able to handle any issues on this website very well: I'm fairly experienced at this task, as I'm already a mod on Humor America and the CC Wiki, and I administrate my own (not very much visited) Plexpedia website. So although I'm not currently very well equipped for this since I'm not able to play the game right now, that could change any day, and when it does I'll be more than happy to take on that job. :)

As for the people I would recommend to be mods, then there's no question about it, lagging definitely gets my vote: From what I've gathered he's been helping out a lot of newbies in becoming good players, contributing more than enough on this forum, and is definitely a person we can all trust and respect. If there were to be some more moderators, I would eventually recommend ACC-Yoshi or FatCatAttack. :)

Yeah natty, I still remember the days where you checked up in the chat rooms and asked if anyone needed help. I do agree that we do need more active moderators for the game. I hardly see any of the mods now adays... TheCyberMan, lagging, and ACC_Yoshi have my vote. But as stated before, CT is in charge.

I didn't read anything there, but I'll say this. I don't want more mods. We're fine with what we have. There isn't much to do anyway. The FIVE of us can handle this fine, even if three disappear for a month or two.

Totoro, I believe you are not fully updated on the progress of CC. The necessity of more mods is not because of a busy forum. Rather, hosts have lost all power in game, and more moderators are becoming busy with their own lives, rendering an opportunity to inaugurate new moderators to this community. Having two moderators moderate the game is a difficult task, especially since it's not a job. Of course, we are looking for the best all-around people to be given this responsibility, so in game participation is not the only factor.

Okay. This was a good exercise.

I've spoken to CT and to borrow from the conversation:

"[...] That's really what will make or break this game - new players have a ball when they first play the game. The more we make it enjoyable for 'em - the more they'll come back."

Simply put, I think we are all in agreement with choosing moderators who make the game enjoyable for people. So from that perspective, I have recommended nine players who I feel would be good moderators from their involvement in-game and from within the forum. You guys all rock, but we need people who will remain engaged with the game and its respective players.

Towards this end, and in the absence of any objection from CT, I move to pit all applicants against each other in a dark pit with a sharp stick and see who emerges victorious.

Thoughts everyone? w/^_^w/
