Described in a basic outline, I have a feature request regarding reading PM's from this website in Mars Explorer:

Sending Messages:

Location: There would be a button on the left side of the screen somewhere near the Messaging Console.

Feature: A small GUI, the size of a quarter of the game window, would pop up. It would have a single-lined section titled "To," and another titled "Subject." The rest, which may be titled "Text," would be space for the message, followed by a "Send" button at the very bottom.

Handling: It could be dragged across available parts of the screen. There would be an "X" at the top corner of the GUI window to close it.

Simplicity: GUI windows are very easy to make. Aubrey already knows how to use his login databases from the website on Mars Explorer (which isn't too difficult), so he should figure out how to do the same with messaging fairly easily.

Exceptions: This feature would only work with Mars Explorer, as only Aubrey handles the Plexpedia database.

Receiving Messages:

Location: There would be a button on the left side of the screen somewhere near the Messaging Console.

Feature: 1. A small GUI, the size of a quarter of the game window, would pop up. It would be threaded according to the newest PMs. For each PM, there would be the name of the sender and the subject. Once selected, you would be able to view the entire PM (unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to view pictures).
2. When you receive a PM, you could be notified by the message console or by a little message that pops up on the screen.

Handling: Same.

Simplicity: Same.

Exceptions: Same.

Share your thoughts on this feature ;)

Eric

Good luck. I don't know why you would need this.

Great idea! Although I think this has been suggested before, I think it would be a really good addition to the game. Perhaps it could be implemented alongside, say, the "Friend" feature?

That sounds pretty cool. Oaky's right, it would be a great addition.

As long as it was as instantaneous as messages in the game. (normal).

CTF: Idea from star wars, empire at war. Have a "team" chat group and a "all" chat group.

Oooooh! You mean like a private message in the game? That's a great idea!

Perhaps on option like

//Private//: Insert message

That's what "in-game" refers to, lol. Regarding images, I don't think Unity can carry that encrypted data over from the website to the game and vice versa.

That's a really good idea. For instance if you're discussing sensitive information with someone, you could do so if you wished without having to start a new game.
"Friending" would also be a good idea. :)

I agree with Ender on the friending thing as well. Makes it seem a bit more safer, in a way.

Maybe have a "ban PM" function, so that any in game creepers are unable to privately contact you.

i think this is an ok-ish idea.  not a big fan of it because i think that the server host should be able to read private messages that are sent through their server.  i mean it is their game that they are hosting so they should have the right to know what people are saying on their own server game thing.  and plus this would be the equivalent of have a group of people playing a board game together and then having one person whisper something to another person, without letting anyone know what they said.  kind of awkward.

maybe if the main chat something like, "Bob123 whispered a message to Joe314!"  then it would be a abit better.  idk.  i just don't feel that comfortable with that kind of secrecy in-game.  plus i dont see to much use for it other than to backtalk about other players in the game.  and thats not very nice.  :(

but if this was utilized for team play and team members would talk to each other, then thats a different story.

Haven't you heard anyone say, "Hey (name), check your PM's." This feature wouldn't really change the secrecy in games.

Remember, this is for PM's, not for replacing the messaging console.

I thought it was kindof like the CC version.

/username message.

Sortof like an ingame PM only readable by the recipient.

Why don't you add it to the players menu in the game. Ban, evict, PM.

This could also be useful for messaging between games, like, say, your buddy is in another server, but you still want to maintain a conversation without leaving the game you're currently in.

I really like this idea! I can totally imagine it!
Yeah, like you click something that says "PM" or something and maybe a little icon would appear and you could type a name of a player in that game or maybe even another game, Example: TO: (etah)+

Anyway, I love the idea Eric!
