Something I made.
Submitted By Forge on 12/02/02
Mars Explorer, Forge, Community, Creations, New Vehicles
This Document originally posted in the "Mars Explorer" Group

I had some free time today, so I rigged up this little monster.

It's not really a new vehicle suggestion, I just thought it would be fun to fly around Mars. :)

As of 2/2/12 I added the engines on the underside of the belly. I was originally going to put them on the top of the wings, but why be normal with a model like this? :D

As of 2/5/12 I added the fins to the edges of the wings, and let them fold down for an aquatic landing.

For anyone interested, here's a link to get you started:

Made in Sketchup

No point. Synth 3 vehicles are decided and it has very little new features that would change gameplay. A powered buggy ish jet is too powerful.

I guess I judged you too highly when I assumed you could read.

I was referring it to a Demo like the microdrone, and comparing it to Martien units. I underestimated your arrogence.

That made little to no sense.

GTR. His Microdrone, it's webplayer.
Comparing your unit to synth units.

The confusing part is?

It'd be nice if you critiqued the model, not the comments. Thanks. ^_^

Amazing, Forge! I really like it! It looks like a glider, and that would be very fun to fly on Mars!

It's a good model... could use a little more detail thought...

Did you get the idea for the colors from George Lucus' new movie, Sky Tails?

I thought the mouth looked like it was from The Langoliers. (horrible movie, never watch it)

Beautiful! Just... Wow! :P
I've made a lot of small models in Sketchup, but I've never really taken them seriously, and I still don't understand how people can manage to make models like those in Sketchup. Really good job! :D

This could get implemented you know, if I'm getting the right idea, there could be loads of vehicles in Syn3h, and so yours really does have a good chance of implementation! (Click here for more info)

Are you intending to make a preview of this vehicle in which we'll be able to fly it? :D

Thank you everyone!

Krunch, I promise I won't smooth it, but I might add a few things to make it look a little more realistic. :D

I might render it as a wireframe. That would be kinda cool.

Posted 2012/02/02 - 23:51 GMT
The tail and underfin are a single piece, kinda like a big curve. :D
5 days - 26,111v
Posted 2012/02/03 - 2:43 GMT
Maybe some landing gear? It could be a tail-dragger, that would be cool.
2 days - 3,596v
Posted 2012/02/03 - 2:46 GMT
I wasn't sure about what type of gear to use...

I don't think a tail dragger would work very well because of the underfin. The engines also aren't low enough to put gear on. Hm...
5 days - 26,111v
Posted 2012/02/03 - 3:14 GMT
Ah. Maybe attatched trycicle gear like a Cessna Skyhawk? Maybe put a gear on each propeller's engine side, and one on the underfin.. That would I think make it unstable, maybe try 2 on the wings, and one coming out from right under the mouth?  Maybe the propellers can have reverse thrust and go down, or up, like a helicopter! I'm forgetting the name, right now. And on the wings, there could be gear and a nose gear. I think hoverpads are bad for this aircraft, because there are propellers, unless you could get it to turn down its thrust, and stall somehow, and then let the hoverpads go out and make it hover? Turn off the engine? I don't really know, ask a mechanic ;) I'm just the guy who'll fly the plane, not the one who builds it. (That would be very interesting, though). Sorry, Forge, if this can't help, I was just putting in some of my aircraft knowledge.

2 things.
Try winglets that point upward and get engines embeded in wing. If no jets, make counter rotating propellers.

Make this thing slower than the jet, but able to fly through water, and BAM!

I want this vehicle in Syn3h!

I really really like the design of this thing. It is extremely unique, actually looks really fun to fly around with.

It is pretty dark... But I'll make it even better! :D

So for the next update it'll have landing gear, and hopefully a better cockpit. >_>

This is pretty sweet! I love the update :D

You should seriously have a shot at getting it implemented though. Like I said, there will most likely be a ton of vehicles in Syn3h, and this would be really cool as a glider!

I'm actually modelling my first car right now in Sketchup :D I found some tutorials on how to do that and it turns out it's soooo easy if you just use blueprints! :D
Did you use blueprints for this model, or did you use some other technique?

EDIT: Just finished it :)
It's a bit wonky looking, but not too bad for a first try :)

1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/02/12 - 18:57 GMT
They are pretty small, but if I'm honest, I didn't really choose very good blueprints for that car, and the car itself wasn't a particularly interesting one...

Sketchup is much easier to use than Blender, though Blender does make nicer models, and has a nice renderer with it, I'm too lazy to use it when all I'm doing is messing around :P
4 days - 13,880v
Posted 2012/02/12 - 20:29 GMT
Easier?! Good one!
2 days - 3,596v
Posted 2012/02/12 - 20:35 GMT
Sketchup is initially more user friendly, but lacks the power that blender has. I've used both, and personally I'm more comfortable with Sketchup (after using it for 7 years or so).
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/02/12 - 20:43 GMT
Sketchup is very much like a 3d version of paint :D It's extremely easy to use, I made that car in about 15 minutes!
But Sketchup is pretty limited, and so even if I had taken one hour to make that car, it wouldn't have been four times better :P
2 days - 3,596v
Posted 2012/02/12 - 21:35 GMT
Oh, sketchup isn't limited at all. It can do anything any modeling program can, provided just a little bit slower and more painfully.
