It Has Been Decided...

Community of Carbon Combat,

A while ago, I made a poll to help decide which world I should make for Carbon Combat. Today, I have closed that poll, seeing as I have not gotten votes in quite a while. I will begin work on the world later today, but I have no idea when I will complete it.

When I looked at the poll, I noticed something strange. An astounding 48% of you, (nearly half!) voted for the same world. You all wanted to see the same thing in Carbon Combat, so, that is what I will make for you.

The world that was voted in was.... Futuristic Flying Space City (with Interiors and Motion Animations)!

Here is the poll:
The Now Closed Poll

Although there were a few glitches (First Futuristic Flying Space City should have been Underwater City), overall, this poll was a great success.

Now, on to the world. The world that I will create is based on the city of Atlantis, from the TV show: Stargate Atlantis. There have been five seasons made, to date. I won't waste time with the details of the plot, but you can easily Google it for a good idea as to what it is about.

The world will be based off of some of the following pictures:
Map of Atlantis

That picture is an accurate map of Atlantis, but in addition to a map, here are some images that should help give you an idea as to what the final product will look like. These pictures have been taken from the TV series.
An Overview of the City

The Central Section, with the Control Tower

The Outskirts of the City

A Close-Up of the East Pier

A Close-Up of An Edge of the City, Highlighting the Weapons Systems

I will try to make my version as detailed as those, but it will be difficult. I hope I get it done by September, the city is so large. If there is anything special you want to see, tell me EARLIER rather than later.

I will not show everything in the city, I want to keep some surprises. My hope is that it will be extremely difficult to explore the ENTIRE city, so there will always be new areas to explore. If I have time, I may make the Stargate inside the city take you to an offworld location...

I will keep you updated on my progress through this post.

Sincerely,
[Mod] Apophis

Hehe. Good luck with that!

The pictures look like you just photoshopped the sea out of the picture lol.

Make sure to keep it spacious, and easily navigable.

Suggestion: You could make a wall with no collider for Janus' lab :)

Yoshi,

Good idea for Janus' lab. I may incorporate some custom music for that part of the city (I'll ask CarbonTech about that), but I like disabling the colliders.

I will try to keep it spacious, but I may need a scale gameobject of the CC car to easily do that. Just wondering: Where should the gate take you? Which offworld site do you think would work well?

Thank you for the luck, I'm going to need it.

Sincerely,

Hopefully you don't intend to use sketchup.

Good luck is all I have to say. Making it that details is far past 10million polys. Hope you have a supercomputer.

Fai,

I will start out with the basic outline in Sketchup, but I will then move into Blender, and Autodesk for the more complex modeling. By the way, I don't have a supercomputer, but I will try compiling all the assets in a more powerful computer than the one on which I am working. I hope it is able to handle what I am about to attempt!

I hope I don't need a supercomputer to play it.

You may only want to only have a limited number of places available. The others could be "Flooded."

The gate may go to Midway Station, or the Alpha Site. Midway may be easier.

How do you intend to switch between Sketchup, Autodesk, and Blender, since none of those programs export/import the same files types. Compiling assets does not really exist in 3d CAD, as it's pretty hard to compile 4 or 5 polys into a single poly, because then there's only one. I'm assuming you're fairly new to 3d modeling, but if you undertake a project, you should choose one program and stick with it. Don't try to be impressive because you switched between multiple platforms, that just means that you don't have the skill to do it all on one. If you really are serious about the LoD, I suggest finding someone with a high end Mac Pro. It's a 12 core computer, and I know that Autodesk does support multiple cores. Sketchup, however, does not. Good luck.

I have a small suggestion; what i noticed is that there is a lot of spacing between the map itself. so, i think that there should be a way to make the design more, perhaps more "not so spacey." By spacey, I mean with like there is the ground and then there is air that your going to need to fly over. Do you think you could fill in those "six" spaces and make it more of a whole instead of spaced out like that? If you find my idea totally rediculous, i completly understand... It's fust my opinoin...
