I ask the Martian community to contribute.

Greetings,

It's time to send a letter to Aubrey through the postal service.

Aubrey's inactivity (so we think) is becoming a great concern. I invite you to share what you would like to be said in a letter to Aubrey. It is important that the community is represented in this letter–not just me. You will be quoted individually if the question/comment that you recommend is significant and personal.

I have tried emailing and instant messaging Aubrey to no avail. This letter is our communal appeal, so please keep your comments conscise and serious. Hopefully, Aubrey will respond.

Also, his postal information is private, so do not ask for it.

Sincerely,

Eric

Yet again I feel like the only mod left out of the loop, though I imagine if I dug deep enough I could probably find the postal information.

I'm not sure what has happened, but the servers are still running, so he has to be at least keeping those up, right?

Only I have Aubrey's postal information. It was for a letter I sent him a few years ago.

Regarding Aubrey's servers, he has to pay for the master server, but he's not running it on his own computer.

Haha... Do you really think this is a good idea? I mean, Aubrey could've abandoned all Mars / Syn3h things due to the fact that his cult-following is mostly composed 12 year olds.

I'd say the average age of forum users is about thirteen, and his "cult following" is around fifteen or sixteen. But have you looked at his Evernote lately? He's working on Syn3h, and I bet he's working so hard he doesn't visit the forum.

Wow, you have Aubrey's address? Stalker much? :)
This could work, actually.

If you don't want a say in the letter, that's fine. I still want to know what is going to happen, and this is my ultimate attempt. I see no point in helping Mars still if it's abandoned. We mods do not have enough power to do more than moderate.

And yes, the evernote is blank. For how long was it blank?

Looking at the evernote, it looks like he has been working on syn3h until AT LEAST 2 weeks ago, and since that is very recent, we can assume he is still working on it.  Remember he is building it from the ground up.

What I find odd is that he is apparently up to Whirld 6 and Syn3h B3, yet neither has been released.

As for the average age of the forum, the cult follosing's median age is probably around 16ish, and the average age of everyone else is about 12.  So forum average age is somewhere in between.

I don't think we should pester Aubrey about Syn3h. Being a dev myself (although not for gaming), I'm always very annoyed when people ask "when is the next coming out?". Just do with what you have now.

In other news, Aubrey has been working on Syn3h. So, maybe you all should think about what you're saying before you say it.

Also, when Syn3h does come out, I'm almost sure that many of you will start complaining about things within the first week. I don't want to hear it, neither does Aubrey.

That's understandable, but it's been a few months since Aubrey has kept in touch. We do have a right to know something.

I don't find it appropriate either to send a letter asking for a release date. I'm curious to see and would consider writing about what you guys would like to be said, however. Pestering Aubrey is not an option.

I would like to know when/if the next version of Whirld will come out, as well as the next version of Syn3h. I don't want a deadline, just a timeframe of (if working slowly) when they should be completed. It's been almost a year since Syn3h B1 was released, and since only B2 has come out as well, it does raise many questions of what has been going on. I can wait a few months, but a year starts getting a little too long.

I want said that: There are people on mars framing eachother and lying to everyone here. It should be taken into caution that the mods should keep an aware eye of whats going on and that Aubrey should be informed immediately.

Aubrey should be here to atleast see what is going on and he needs to speak his words. Thats what mars needs right now. Aubrey and his mods.

Look, fai, BACK OFF.  What moonwalker/colonelchamberlain is saying is a perfectly legitimate claim and should be treated with respect.  If she doesn't want to provide proof, then she doesn't have to.  If you were dying, you wouldn't want to have to prove it to the whole world, would you?

I suggest we get this post back on topic. If you want to talk about Moonwalker's hospitalization then please talk about it in the appropriate thread.

Anyways....

In the letter I think that we should tell Aubrey how mars is. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I suggest that before you send the letter we address the issues and come up with possible solutions. Those we can write into the letter as well.

Aubrey has Internet, it's not that he can't figure out what's going on, it's that he's busy. Sheesh. Maybe he's gone on a family vacation or something, who knows. I know that if I had been awesome enough to make a game like this and have a community spring up around it (obviously I'm not, or I would have), I'd have preferred said community to be rather self-sufficient and not needing to be babysat every few days.

We're not being babysat every few days, weeks, or months. The purpose of this thread is to collect important information that Aubrey should be notified of. No one has said anything that has impressed me yet to be in the letter. Again, it's not to pester or provoke him, but for him to acknowledge our main concerns.

Well I think we ought to let Aubrey know there have been multiple hacks on ATI accounts, probably all by the same person. So we ought to get him to improve the security, and possibly put an IP ban on the hacker.

So basically just put an IP ban on Stryker's hacked account, as that one is now in the control of the hacker, so the hacker's IP will be banned and not the real Stryker's IP address... And do the same with EmperorEctoshock's old account, since that one is also in the control of the hacker.

Dear Aub'z,

If Syn3h is still truly in your blood and a full release comes our way, that would be awesome! However, I would fully (but sadly) understand if you let Mars slowly turn to cruft if that's what your life demands.

I am so grateful for the thrilling dogfights that we shared and for your friendship.

Be it good news or bad, you could put a lot of people (and possibly yourself) at ease by posting an update.

Sincerely, kruncher

Aubrey,

Many in this community feel that, until the possible/eventual release of Beta 3 or the full game, it would be in Mars's best interest to appoint (FlyClub) as a game develloper. He is very competent, plays the game, has intrest in the devellopement of Mars and has told me he WOULD accept the opportunity to design a Mars Explorer 3.0. I wish that you offer a choice to the community, along with your own preference, if mars should be handed over to his trustworthy hands. I wish simply that you read and acknowledge the various letters in this posts, and make the final decision about the future. The time is now to make a choice. Please, answer this community, for better or worse.

Dear Aubrey,

Thank you for creating this amazing game and putting it out there online for free. I am sure you are a great person for doing this just to cater to the wants of teens and preteens. However, your not being all that active in the community and lack of updates on Syn3h (even in the development blog) is troubling to me. I understand if your life demands you to pay more attention to it rather than this game, however since this game is so great perhaps development should not stop.
My suggestion (and a couple other people have thought this too) is that perhaps somebody else should take over Syn3h/Mars development and adminship. Please consider the suggestion.

The forums and game are also dying, and some may attribute it directly to your lack of involvement (but I disagree). The mods are burning out, and a lot of people are leaving, or thinking of leaving. New people coming in does help, but it doesn't do much to stop the pain of losing hordes of people.

Thank you again, and I wish you luck in all your future endeavors,
~Ender

Aubrey,

You got a good game going, a game with not many problems. The players are friendly and the servers are quite enjoyable. People want the updates pretty bad.

Here are my two cents worth.

You have a life to live. Life is not all about playing games or making your players satisfied. Mars is not the biggest most important thing in the world. If you have reached a time in your life that you feel that Mars is not important anymore, then don't bother with it. Some people think you should pass off the responsibility to someone else. If that is what you want to do than do it.

Thank you for the enjoyable times that we have all had.

Dear Aubrey,

There's a lot of new, fresh worlds that have been made by the community, and they need to be placed into the game to get the attention they deserve. If someone else was given co-administrative privileges, that would simply be awesome, and allow these worlds to be placed into the game without much trouble on your part.

Thanks.
