My Brainchildren...

ffroggy's syn3h ideas:
1. Players have the option of making a decal for their vehicle. Basically it would be a picture assigned to a player's registered account. This picture appears when they comment, and it could also appear on the side of their vehicle when playing in game.

2. I was playing Black Ops with my friend on multiplayer the other day, and a little lightbulb popped up in my head. You may or may not know, but when someone is killed on Black Ops, a little thing pops up at the bottom of the screen that says "player one shot player two" but instead of the word shot, there's a little picture of a gun. This would be great for syn3h! When someone is shot, a little update pops up at the top of the sceen saying "ffroggy shot Paladin" but instead of the word shot, there's a little green laser.
I do have a problem with this idea: if a noob shoots someone who is AFK over and over again, then that constant update would cause other updates to become lost. Here's my solution: Each player has the ability to hide updates from other players.

3. An actual cannon that the laser is shooting from. For the tank, the actual turret, for the jet, a machine gun, and for the buggy *mouth waters* a gatling gun.

4. Different crosshairs for different guns

5. A bigger variety of weapons (er, not weapons, strategic laser taggers?), and maybe even reloading! (but unlimited ammo, ‘cause running out of ammo stinks)

6. Better in-game music? Pwease? (btw for really cool music, look up Epic Score, and it’s score as in orchestra score)

7. A HUD (for you non-abbreviation people, that’s Heads Up Display) So that even if it’s hard to see the target, there’s still a green diamond on him or something. Of course, if the person goes behind something , the diamond disappears. Under the green diamond, the HUD might have the speed or altitude of the vehicle. The Diamond turns red when the target is being aimed at. Here’s another idea: how about a lock on the vehicle. If you can keep the crosshairs on a vehicle for long enough, the crosshairs lock on your target for a little while. The HUD can also be turned off for those who like the classic feel, or maybe there could be some sort of a hybrid?

8. More realistic trails coming from the back of the buggy (the white line comes from the back of the  buggy, not the middle)

9. More detail on the bottom of the buggy, not just a blank plate (maybe some pipes or something)

10. The vehicles actually transform. So the buggy comes apart and then reassembles itself into a jet. kinda like transformers without the robot thing.

Please let me know what you think, and I will edit my suggestions based on your feedback!
thanks,
ffroggy

Ffroggy,

Those are some very cool ideas!

However (as always) I do have some suggestions.

As you stated on your post:
1. Players have the option of making a decal for their vehicle. Basically it would be a picture assigned to a player's registered account. This picture appears when they comment, and it could also appear on the side of their vehicle when playing in game.

My response: By coincidence, I was just thinking of this idea today. I think that this is a good idea, and I do see some promise of it being implemented. However, I think that it would be hard to moderate what pictures come onto Mars. By that, I mean that some people might want to use "inappropriate" pictures to go along with their name. Also, I do not know how much more programming it would take to make a zone on the vehicle for a custom picture. As a solution to that problem, players could make a "custom coloured mars buggy image". In a sense, before they went to play, they would add custom colours to a logo of a mars buggy (or Syn3h buggy).
One Mars logo that I have come across in my "travels" is this one:
A Mars Icon

Overall, I agree with this idea and I fully support it.

In your post, you also stated:
My response: I do like that idea, but I do have some suggestions. For the "little green laser" there could be an ANIMATION of a green (or red depending on what type it is) hitting a Mars buggy (almost like a replay but not quite). I like the idea of hiding updates from other players, but I am wondering if it should be limited to "laser updates" or if it could include messages as well. For example, I was in a game today, and I think it was (AuraShockwave)+ (correct me if I'm wrong) who kept putting a message into the console that was "I'm bored bored bored bored....." and so on and so on. At that time, I really wished that I could block comments from that player. I do have a question about this idea: Would these "laser updates" appear on the bottom of the screen and fade after a while, or would they appear in the messaging console?

Here is an example as to how this might look:
A Picture of Ffroggy's Second Idea
NOTE: This picture does not necessarily work with what was happening in the game at that time.

Overall, Great work!!!

P.S. I do have my own idea to add to this: Action Replays. For example, I was in a game today, and I had NO IDEA how I had lost the Quarry. I very badly wanted to see a replay to see where the laser had hit me and when exactly it had hit (since I did not realize that I was not Quarry until a few minutes after the fact). My idea is, that you could hit a "replay" button and you could choose a 5 second, 10 second, etc replay that would replay the scene up until the present in the game. You would be "not responding" for the time that you were watching the replay, and you could have the option to download the video file for the replay! Tell me what you think of this idea!

Good ideas, but they have been suggested before (The second might not have been though)

In regards to the first suggestion, I think it will be very slow network processing trying to get the decals with the vehicle to move coherently. And can't you live with the current customization methods? I remember when that was not present, and now we take it for granted.

I think that the current Quarry-focused updates are enough, as nobody needs to see "Tanknoob- got Helplessvictim-" over and over.

All in all, I like the current system, but good ideas nonetheless.

P.S. Black ops? Really?

About the current customization methods: if we can customize the color of the vehicle, why can't we add a small decal to the buggy? It's just like adding a texture that's assigned to a certain file that's uploaded to your account.
About your quarry focused comment, I agree with you, that's why I proposed that you can hide updates from certain people or everyone if you don't like it.
PS What's wrong with black ops?

haha... Syn3h is almost finished... the first version of it. But this could all g in the next release. Oh I love number 2... but you can usually tell by the negative scores.

Geek377,

For Syn3h, wasn't the first beta released on December 27, 2010? That was the date of the original post on the Syn3h website. Also, from the date on the website, the second beta of Syn3h was released on February 4, 2011. When you are talking about the "first version", do you technically mean the first official release, instead of the beta?

Also, what do you mean by: "Oh I love number 2... but you can usually tell by the negative scores."
What are "negative scores"? Please define.....

Please correct me if I am wrong about the release date of Syn3h.

Syn3h version 1 is not out yet; only 0.1 and 0.2. These are "betas" not "really" Syn3h.

Thanks for inquiring. I should have been more clear. First of all, I meant the complete build, not a beta version. Secondly, you can tell if a player has been tagging non quarries becaus eit gives them negative scores.

The first version of Syn3h was released at 1700 PT on December 26, 2010.

About the decals mabe there would be certain patterns that you could change the colers for.
PS what is AFK {if a noob shoots someone who is AFK over and over again}

I'm really not sure what AFK stands for, but here's what it is: when a player is not at his/her computer,  but still leaves Mars Explorer open. basically, it's like an extended brb.

AFK stands for Away From Keyboard. Have you never watch BBT (Big Bang Theory)

Sorry commenters if I repeated some stuff. Im too lazy to read your comments.

1. Players have the option of making a decal for their vehicle. Basically it would be a picture assigned to a player's registered account. This picture appears when they comment, and it could also appear on the side of their vehicle when playing in game.

This idea is great. But the thing where the picture appears on the side of the vehicle; I don't really like that part. Another add-on to this would be a profile picture that you can see when you look at someone's account.

I don't think a green line will represent a laser. A laser representation photo will be hard to make because a laser is just a green line; and sometimes the laser can be red. Maybe a picture of you or the "shotee's" vehicle with a green line coming out of it might be better.

3. An actual cannon that the laser is shooting from. For the tank, the actual turret, for the jet, a machine gun, and for the buggy *mouth waters* a gatling gun.

Kinda of a copy of Carbon Combat. I'm not saying that this is a bad idea, in fact, it's the best one in your post.

4. Different crosshairs for different guns

Same as 3.

5. A bigger variety of weapons (er, not weapons, strategic laser taggers?), and maybe even reloading! (but unlimited ammo, ‘cause running out of ammo stinks)

This is like a...cool thingamajig for my brain...

6. Better in-game music? Pwease? (btw for really cool music, look up Epic Score, and its score as in orchestra score)

I believe that this is already in Mars Explorer and Syn3h beta. I think it's called laser lock or something.

8. More realistic trails coming from the back of the buggy (the white line comes from the back of the  buggy, not the middle)

Don't need it; therefore, this idea would be a waste of a programer's time.

9. More detail on the bottom of the buggy, not just a blank plate (maybe some pipes or something)

HOT WHEELS! BEAT THAT!

1. I see your point
2. That's what I'm thinking about too. When a red laser is shot, a red line is shown, and when a green laser is shot, a green laser is shown. When a tank shoots the shot, a tank is shown, and when a jet shoots something else, a jet is shown shooting the laser.
5. that's just nasty, edit please?
7. I know about laser lock, but it fires automatically, with the HUD, you shoot, it doesn't shoot automatically for you.
8. agree
9. That's where I got the idea!
